Excavator Hydraulic Valve Compatibility by Brand & Model
A hydraulic valve decides where the oil goes and at what pressure. When one fails the machine rarely stops dead - it becomes slow, jerky, weak on one function, or it drifts under load. That is exactly why valve faults are so often misdiagnosed, and why the wrong valve gets ordered.
This guide covers the valve families we ship weekly, the fitment details that decide whether a replacement actually works, and real part numbers we can confirm from stock.

Main Control Valves: What Really Decides Fitment
The main control valve is the most expensive valve on the machine and the one most often returned. Three details decide the fitment. First, the number of sections - a four-section valve cannot replace a six-section one. Second, the spool configuration: open-centre, closed-centre and load-sensing machines use different spools, and a valve taken from a load-sensing machine will behave badly on an open-centre circuit. Third, the relief setting, which ships at a factory value and must be adjusted to your machine specification on a flow bench.
If the valve is only weeping from an O-ring, re-seal it first - a seal kit costs a fraction of an assembly and the casting is usually reusable. Replace it when a bore is scored, a spool is bent, or a section has run at the wrong pressure for a long period.
Pilot and Joystick Valves
A pilot valve converts a small joystick movement into the low-pressure signal that shifts the main spool. Fitment is decided by three things: the number of sections, the pilot pressure rating and the port pattern on the mounting face. A pilot valve from a similar machine will bolt straight on and still give you the wrong response curve, so the number matters more than the model name. Komatsu PC-series pilot sections are a constant enquiry - we currently supply 723-40-71103, 723-40-71900 and 723-40-71100. The John Deere and Hitachi family pattern shared across the 75C, 120C and 450CLC is covered by 9239583 and 9257577.
Solenoid and Proportional Valves
Most faults that look electrical are hydraulic, and the reverse is just as common. A solenoid coil can read correctly on a multimeter and still fail to shift the spool, because the problem is usually a sticky cartridge or a burnt driver in the controller. Test the coil cold and hot - resistance drifts with temperature. Two assemblies we hold: the Sumitomo SH200-5 solenoid valve and the Doosan Solar 2523-9016, both supplied complete with coil and O-rings. Replace relays at the same time - a chattering relay destroys a new coil within weeks.
Relief, Safety and Pump-Control Valves
Relief valves set the working pressure, so a wrong cracking pressure is not a small error. Set it too low and the machine feels tired; too high and you will find the next weakest component. Kobelco SK-series relief valves are stocked by machine model. Pump valve controllers must be matched to the pump family rather than the excavator model - for example the Hitachi 9125533 PVC controller. On backhoes and wheel loaders the equivalent part is the SCV: for IVECO 100E, 140E and 160E machines the control SCV valve cross-references to 0928400481 and 961280670014.
Is It Actually a Valve? Two Look-Alike Failures
Before ordering, rule out two parts with identical symptoms. A failing main pump gives slow, hot hydraulics with correct valve pressures. A failing controller gives solenoid faults that come and go with temperature. Test pilot pressure first, then section pressure, then the coil signal from the controller - an hour well spent before a wrong order.

Five Checks Before You Order
1. Read the number cast or stamped on the valve body, not the number in the parts book - supersessions are common.
2. Count the sections and record the port pattern; photograph the mounting face next to a ruler.
3. Confirm the pilot or cracking pressure your machine is set to, and put it in writing on the enquiry.
4. Check the connector: pin count, keyway, and whether the coil is 12V or 24V.
5. Ask for the machine model, dash number and serial range on the quotation before you pay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fit a used control valve to my excavator?
Only when the casting and spool configuration match. A mismatched spool type gives slow or uncontrolled functions that look like a pump fault. Ask for the donor model and dash number, and pressure-test before installation.
Why does the machine get weak instead of stopping?
Hydraulic circuits are designed to limp. A leaking relief or a worn spool bleeds pressure, so the machine keeps working with less force. By the time it stops, other components are usually worn too - which is why we test the relief valve first.
How do I know which solenoid valve fits my pump?
Match the valve to the pump family, not to the excavator model. Send the pump nameplate and a photo of the coil plug, and we confirm the correct number before dispatch. Electrical parts and controllers are checked the same way.
