Recently, the data of the second-hand excavator online transaction report for September 2022, compiled by Tiejia Second-hand Machinery, has been released. We have observed that the transaction volume of second-hand excavators in September 2022 decreased by 1.5% month-on-month and 39.8% year-on-year. The Sany 75, 215, and 135 excavators were the most popular. The UEPI value of medium-sized excavators showed a double decline both month-on-month and year-on-year, with the largest drop. Among the changes in the ranking of equipment brands, Volvo rose 4 places to enter the top 10, and foreign brand equipment remained the most recognized by users. In September 2022, the transaction volume of second-hand excavators decreased by 1.5% month-on-month and dropped by 39.8% year-on-year. From the chart, we can see that the transaction volume of second-hand machines this month has not changed significantly compared to the previous month, with a slight decrease. However, compared to the same period last year, the gap is quite large, with a year-on-year decline rate reaching 39.8%, which objectively indicates that the current second-hand machinery market is facing certain difficulties.
From the chart showing the ranking of top 15 equipment brands in terms of transactions in September 2022, we can see that Sany and Caterpillar remain at the top. This indicates that the market highly recognizes the second-hand products of these two brands. We noticed that among the top ten, there are three Chinese brands, namely Sany, XCMG, and Shandong Linke, and especially Linke has shown a strong upward trend recently.
According to the data on the brand share of equipment sold in September, the top three brands are Sany, Caterpillar and XCMG; Doosan and Komatsu each account for more than 7.0%. From the perspective of market concentration, CR4 = 43.8% and CR8 = 67.8%, indicating extremely high market concentration.
In the ranking of equipment brands for September 2022 transactions, compared with the previous month, the top three positions remained unchanged, still being Sany, Caterpillar and XCMG. However, Doosan rose by 2 places and entered the top 5.
Among the top 10, Komatsu and Sumitomo dropped in the rankings, while Hitachi, Hyundai, Shandong Linong remained unchanged. Volvo rose by 4 places and entered the top 10.
In the rankings from 11th to 15th, the brands experienced significant changes. Among them, Liugong and Leiwo Heavy Industry both dropped 3 places and ranked 11th and 14th respectively; Kubota's ranking dropped 2 places and ranked 15th; Sumitomo's ranking rose 4 places and entered the top 15, ranking 12th; Shanhe Intelligent Machinery's ranking rose 2 places and ranked 13th.
Overall, the ranking of the top 15 brands shows that there are still more foreign brands among them. This can relatively objectively reflect that the industry customers' recognition of foreign brands is relatively high. Chinese enterprises and brands still need to make efforts.

This indicates that there are relatively more construction projects in these regions, and therefore the number of purchased equipment is also larger.
In the chart of regional distribution (purchase volume) of domestic second-hand excavators' online transactions in September 2022, the province with the highest purchase volume in September was Guangxi, accounting for 10.1%. Followed by Shandong, Guangdong, Hubei, and Anhui. This indicates that these regions have relatively more construction projects, and therefore the number of purchased equipment is also higher. In the chart of regional distribution (sale volume) of domestic second-hand excavators' online transactions in September 2022, the province with the highest sale volume in September was Anhui, accounting for 11.6%. Followed by Jiangsu, accounting for 11.4%, and Hubei, accounting for 11.2%. The fact that these regions have a high sale volume does not mean that the construction projects in these areas are few. The true meaning behind this data should be that equipment transactions in these regions are frequent, and the demand is also not low. There must be demand for there to be circulation and trading.
In the "Supply vs. Demand" table for second-hand excavators' online transactions in September 2022, we can see that the brands with a "supply exceeding demand" situation include XCMG, Komatsu, Liugong, Hyundai, Shandong Linke, Volvo, Lewo Heavy Industry, and Shanhe Intelligent Machinery. While Sany and Hitachi have a relatively balanced supply and demand situation; the brands with a "demand exceeding supply" situation are Caterpillar, Doosan, Sumitomo, Kubota, and Sumitomo. This also indicates the customers' recognition of these brands' equipment.
In the chart showing the changes in the number of potential buyer users in each province in September 2022, it can be observed that the ranking of the number of potential buyer users in each province is highly correlated with the transaction volume of each province. Guangdong and Guangxi swapped positions and ranked first and second respectively. The provinces with large transactions such as Shandong, Hunan, and Hubei did not change their rankings and were ranked among the top five.
We can observe that the top ten provinces are mostly areas where both the purchase and sale volumes of equipment are relatively high. Indeed, the overall equipment transaction volume in these regions is quite large.
Among the top 15, Anhui's ranking rose by 1 place and it ranked eighth; Jiangsu and Yunnan both rose by 2 places and ranked ninth and twelfth respectively; Guizhou, Zhejiang and Jiangxi all saw their rankings decline to varying degrees.
In September 2022, among the top 15 models that users were interested in, there were 4 brands involved. Among the top 10, Sany occupied 7 positions, while the other two brands, Caterpillar and Jineng, each occupied the remaining 3 positions. Thus, it can be seen that users have the highest interest in Sany equipment. Especially the models like Sany's 75, 215 and 135 are truly excellent devices in users' minds and therefore receive much attention.
Regarding the distribution of the device years that users are concerned about, from the perspective of the manufacturing years of the devices that users are interested in, the devices manufactured in 2016-2017 received the highest level of user attention, accounting for 16.1%, an increase of 7.6% compared to August.

Among them, the equipment manufactured in 2021 saw the most significant increase in user interest, rising by 11.6% compared to August.
For the used excavator price index (UEPI), in September 2022, the UEPI was 43.6, down by 11.6% compared with the previous month and down by 9.9% compared with 2021. Both the month-on-month and year-on-year declines indicate a worrying trend.

Xiaohu: In September 2022, Xiaohu's UEPI was 52.1, down by 4.8% compared to the previous month and down by 18.2% compared to 2021.
Among them, we can observe that the value of the UEPI index for China has witnessed the largest decline both in terms of month-on-month and year-on-year. This clearly indicates that it has been most affected by the market.
In the monthly price index chart for each province in September 2022, there were a total of 6 provinces with a环比 increase. Among them, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Yunnan, and Hubei saw a recovery in their price indices compared to the previous month's period. The price recovery was accompanied by an increase in construction projects within these provinces, which led to an increase in equipment demand, and naturally, the prices also rose.
A total of 16 provinces experienced a month-on-month decline. Among them, Beijing, Ningxia, Sichuan and Guangdong had the largest declines. Take Beijing as an example. In October, the capital held a very important meeting. Naturally, in the previous month of September, various construction progress was somewhat stagnant, so the demand for equipment was not particularly strong. (Note: The price index is greatly influenced by the equipment's usage period and only reflects the current market price of the equipment, unable to reflect the equipment's preservation rate;)
