Function of the Exhaust Valve

The exhaust valve controls the flow of exhaust gases out of the engine cylinder. It opens during the exhaust stroke to release burnt gases into the exhaust system, then closes to seal the combustion chamber. A worn or damaged exhaust valve can cause loss of compression, rough running, overheating and reduced engine power.
