In recent years, China's coal mine gas control work has achieved remarkable results, and the number of gas accidents and fatalities has dropped significantly. Since 2021, there have been 3 major coal mine gas accidents in China, killing 38 people; Compared with the peak period of gas accidents from 2000 to 2006, the average annual number of gas accidents and the number of fatalities decreased by 98.1% and 98.9% respectively.

Protective layer mining technology has been fully implemented, and surface well extraction technology has been widely applied. Guizhou has changed from the past "which layer of coal is thick to which layer" to the priority mining protection layer. In Anhui, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other coal mines, surface well pumping technology has been widely used to control pressure relief gas and gob gas. Huaibei Mining Group has applied the combined mining technology of well and ground, and has constructed more than 400 surface mining Wells since 2020, with the maximum gas extraction volume of 5 million cubic meters per well.
At the same time, China's underground drilling construction technology, soft coal seam anti-reflection technology is improving day by day, and positive progress has been made in drilling cut anti-reflection technology. The anti-reflection methods such as large-diameter cutting are adopted around soft and low-permeability coal seam in the Lianghuai area, and the radius of cutting is increased from 153 mm to 500 mm, which significantly improves the effect of pressure relief and anti-reflection.
The rapid upgrading of drilling rig equipment provides a solid guarantee for gas treatment. The drilling capacity of downhole drilling rig is changed from low to high, and the drilling attitude instrument is used to achieve deep and accurate drilling. Local regulatory and supervisory departments have increased law enforcement efforts on gas control, and increased efforts to crack down on various fraud activities such as drilling, pumping, monitoring, and hidden working faces, and achieved positive results. In 2024, a total of 920 hidden working faces will be cleared across the country, and 215 hidden dangers involving major accidents involving counterfeiting will be investigated and dealt with.
