Carter 374 makes its appearance, completing the final piece of the puzzle for the new generation of excavators.
As is well known, in 2017, Caterpillar began to launch the new generation of the 300 series hydraulic excavators. The earliest models were 320 and 323. The 320 was featured in the movie "Transformers 5" and was officially launched globally at the 2017 Beijing BICES exhibition. What are the new features of the new generation of excavators? In the past few years, the media have already introduced a lot of details. So, I won't go into it again here. However, at the same time, the introduction of the new generation of excavators coincided with Caterpillar's adjustment of product naming. As a result, we saw that this generation of products should have been classified as the G series, but instead, the suffix "G" was removed and a version number that is not present in the model and is not widely known was used to identify them. This led to a situation where Caterpillar has a tradition of adjusting model names during product upgrades. For example, the largest model in the earliest 300 series was 375. When upgraded to the B series, it became 385B. And when upgrading from the C series to the D series, 385C became 390D. In this current upgrade, we also witnessed a similar situation. 390F became 395.
There are numerous models in the 300 series. The upgrade process is not completed all at once. Over the past few years, Caterpillar has successively released new models of the 300 series worldwide, including micro excavators, small excavators, medium excavators and large excavators. Currently, most models have been released, but there are still a few that are uncertain as to whether they will be upgraded or if they will adopt new models. For example, will the 335F be upgraded to 335, will the 316F be upgraded to 316, or will there be no further upgrades in the future?
However, in terms of the large-scale excavation, Carter has already officially released models 336, 349, 352, and 395. The only remaining uncertainty is model 374. But this tonnage model is impossible for Carter to be absent from the lineup. Therefore, an upgrade is inevitable. The question is whether 374F will be upgraded to 374. Since 374 was originally 350, it was later upgraded to 365B, and then from 365C to 374D, so there is a possibility of upgrading to models such as 375 or 376.
Recently, pictures of the new model 374 have been leaked online. Although it has not been officially released, the model can be confirmed. 374 is obviously an upgraded version of 374F. Of course, since it has not been officially released, the technical details are still unclear. However, a simple analysis can still be made: Firstly, all the features of the new generation 374 are present, which I won't go into detail about; Secondly, the engine should still be the C15, as there are no other options for the engine; Thirdly, the overall layout follows the previous design, unlike 395 which turned the engine in a different direction. Well, that's the basic situation. Just wait for Carter to officially release the 374.
