The drilling company of the world's richest man, Musk, has completed the tunnel project in Las Vegas.
Elon Musk's tunneling company has completed a circular tunnel beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center. The tunnel consists of a three-station transportation system and is 2.7 kilometers in total length. It connects the new exhibition halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center with the existing complex (North/Center/South Halls), reducing the 45-minute walk across the complex to approximately 2 minutes.
The $50 million engineering project was completed in just over a year. Next, the system will transport conference guests using Tesla electric vehicles, with an expected capacity of over 4,000 passengers per hour. This is also the company's first commercial attempt.
Steven Davis, the president of the drilling company, said that the tunneling work was completed last May and was built using the company's faster drilling technology. The soil from the construction site was made into bricks, which could be sold or given away.
Looking to the future, Musk's ambition is to build a complex tunnel system throughout the city, and the loop in Las Vegas may eventually be connected to a larger underground loop system in the city.
