Cangdong Power Plant: The blue Sea waves nourish the Port City, writing a new Chapter with Water as the medium
On the shore of the Bohai Bay, a water supply pipeline stretching over 70 kilometers acts like a bond, connecting Cangdong Power Plant, which is owned by China Shenhua Property Rights, with 35 industrial enterprises in the Bohai New Area. On March 25th, the annual cumulative water supply to the outside of Cangdong Power Plant exceeded 2 million tons, and the cumulative supply of desalinated seawater to the outside exceeded 100 million tons, equivalent to the water storage capacity of seven West Lakes in Hangzhou. From the breakthrough move of "asking the sea for water to drink" to the win-win exploration of "using water as a medium", this power plant rooted in the saline-alkali wasteland has connected the industrial lifeline with a channel of clear water, injecting powerful impetus into the high-quality development of the regional economy.
Seek strong technological breakthroughs at sea to break through the "waterless predicament"
Under the blue sea and sky, four sets of low-temperature multi-effect seawater desalination equipment shine like pearls set on the shore of the Bohai Bay. But at the beginning of the factory's establishment in 2001, the source of fresh water left the builders at a loss. Groundwater resources are scarce and the salt content far exceeds the industrial water standard. Where does the large quantity and high-quality fresh water come from? The predicament has forced innovation. The builders have turned their attention to the vast ocean and embarked on an ice-breaking journey to "obtain fresh water from the sea".
In 2006, two sets of low-temperature multi-effect seawater desalination equipment with a daily output of 10,000 tons were introduced from France, successfully quenching the thirst of the units. In order to solve the problems such as limited parts, limited production capacity, technological bottlenecks and high maintenance costs, Cangdong Power Plant has worked closely with research institutes and universities, boldly conducting independent tests of the seawater desalination project, making revisions and attempts after failures. Fail again, revise again, try again... After two years of research and development, the first domestic 10,000-ton low-temperature multi-effect distillation equipment was developed, with a daily production capacity of 12,500 tons, a 25% increase compared to imported equipment, completely breaking the foreign technological monopoly. Since then, the technology has been iterated and upgraded again. In 2013, the 2.0 version of the equipment was independently designed, with the production capacity doubling to 25,000 tons per day and the total water production capacity reaching 57,500 tons per day. Not only can it be completely self-sufficient, but it also solves the water shortage problem of surrounding enterprises.
Since 2012, the factory has been providing large-scale water supply to the outside world through the water supply network built by the government, covering industries such as port logistics, energy and chemical engineering, and grain and oil processing. The number of users has expanded from the initial 4 to a maximum of 83. To enhance water supply capacity, Cangdong Power Plant has formulated an equipment maintenance plan and successively completed the transformation of the domestic DCS systems for four sets of seawater desalination equipment, continuously improving the operational reliability and economy of the seawater desalination equipment. Based on the water usage of the entire plant's water network, the operation mode of desalinated water production should be reasonably adjusted to achieve economic dispatching of desalinated water production and external water supply, making desalinated water an important medium for transforming from self-sufficiency to benefiting the local area.
